[FR] L'église est édifiée en 1927, peu après la canonisation de sainte Thérèse de Lisieux, par l'architecte Charles Bourgeois.
Son décor est conçu autour du thème de la rose, iconographie propre au culte thérésien, que l'on retrouve dans tout l'édifice, dans les parties architecturales comme dans le mobilier et les vitraux. Les céramiques sont de Charles Fourmaintraux-Delassus à Desvres.
Charles BOURGEOIS, architecte tourquennois, suit d’abord les cours d’architecture de son père, Jules BOURGEOIS, à l’Ecole des Beaux-Arts de Tourcoing. A 20 ans, il part pour l’école Saint-Luc de Gand. Il y emporte tous les prix d’architecture, y compris la médaille de l’élève le plus méritant. Il poursuivra sa formation aurpès d'architectes comme Paul HANKAR ou Victor HORTA,tous deux éminents représentants de l’Art Nouveau dans la capitale belge.
Sainte-Thérèse comporte plusieurs frises décoratives réalisées en céramique grès grand feu, comme celles de la façade et celles présentes à l'intérieur de l'édifice. Ces éléments en céramique sont composés de roses de différentes couleurs, rappelant Sainte-Thérèse de l'Enfant Jésus.
[EN] The church was built in 1927, shortly after the canonization of Sainte Thérèse de Lisieux, by the architect Charles Bourgeois.
Its decor is designed around the theme of the rose, an iconography particular to the worship of Saint Thérèse. It is found everywhere in the building, built into the architecture, in the furniture, and in the stained glass windows. The ceramics are by Charles Fourmaintraux-Delassus of Desvres.
Charles BOURGEOIS, an architect from Tourcoing, initially attended his father, Jule Bourgeois's architectural class at the Tourcoing School of Fine Arts. At the age of 20, he left to attend the Saint-Luc school in Ghent. There, he won all the architectural prizes, including the medal of best student. He continued his education under the architects Paul HANKAR and Victor HORTA, both eminent representatives of Art Nouveau in the Belgian capital.
Sainte-Thérèse has several decorative friezes produced in high fire ceramic, such as those of the facade and in the interior of the building. These ceramic elements composed of different colored roses are symbolic of Sainte-Thérèse de l'Enfant Jésus.
