[EN] In Turku, on December 10, 1957, people wondered why the fashion store Marie on Puutarhakatu had been closed since Independence Day. There were no sightings of the owner of the store, Eeva Maria Haahto, in recent days either. Police went to the store for inspection on the 10th day after 10 a.m. and made a gruesome discovery: 69-year-old Haahto was lying dead in the shop. Death was not natural, as Haahto had signs of violence at his head.
In January 1958, a man was arrested in city of Vaasa on suspicion of other reasons. He was also suspected of killing Haahto, so he was transported from Vaasa to Turku for questioning. The suspect was Pauli Johannes Aalto, a tailor and travel trader from Laihia, aged 42 years. On Wednesday, January 15, 1958, Aalto made a full confession.
On November 26, 1957, Aalto had left the Sotunkylä labor camp without permission and spent the night a few nights in a guest house in Turku, with in his own name. He had also visited Haahto's shop a few times to scrounge some money, which Haahto had given. Aalto claimed to have mentioned to Haahto that he was a labor camp fugitive.
On December 5, 1958, the day before his 42nd birthday, Aalto again went to Haahto's circulation to scrounge some money. This time, Haahto was tight and said he would "not give money to men all over the world." Even Haahto mentioned the possibility of reporting to the police. Aalto left the fashion store, but then began to wonder what if Haahto would indeed report to the police. Aalto decided that Haahto should be scared and packed the stone in his pocket.
The labor camp fugitive went back into store to scrounge the money, but Haahto tried to rush him away. Aalto then hit the woman with a stone on her head. Haahto fell to the ground and Aalto continued beating with a stone. After Haahto's death, Aalto washed himself and packed his bloody scarf and jacket in a cardboard box, with which he left the courtyard door. Aalto assured that he did not steal anything from the shop.
It should be mentioned that after the first stone-stroke, Haahto brightened so that the neighbor heard it. However, the neighbor was on the phone, and after going to try Haahto's door later, no one opened.
After the act, Aalto traveled by taxi car along Satakunnantie and hid the box in the woods, where a bystander later found it. The cardboard box was found to be from Haahto's shop, and the jacket in the box was suitable for Aalto's measurements. Aalto was a thin, 160 cm tall man. From Turku, Aalto traveled to Vaasa, where he was then arrested.
Aalto was described as weak nerves. He had two minor assaults and several thefts on his criminal record. Aalto had also been treated in a prison prison hospital. Newspaper Helsingin Sanomat reported on 18 January 1958 that the police had investigated whether Aalto had been involved in the unsolved murders of two womans Kyllikki Saari and Elli Immo. However, as early as January 23, 1958, the same newspaper reported that Aalto was found to have been in Vaasa at the time of Saari's murder, not at the scene in Isojoki. In June 1959, the Turku District Court sentenced Aalto to 12 years in prison for the murder of Eeva Haahto. Aalto avoided a lifetime because he had acted without full understanding. However, the court ruled that Aalto could be isolated in a forced detention facility as a dangerous repeat offender.

Aalto oli 26.11.1957 lähtenyt luvatta Sotunkylän työleiriltä ja yöpynyt joitakin öitä turkulaisessa matkustajakodissa, ihan omalla nimellänsä vielä. Aalto oli kaupitellut vaateripustimia ja pannunalusia. Hän oli myös muutaman kerran käynyt Haahdon liikkeessä pummaamassa rahaa, mitä Haahto oli antanutkin. Aalto väitti maininneensa Haahdolle olevansa työleirikarkuri.
5.12.1958, päivää ennen 42-vuotispäiväänsä, Aalto meni jälleen Haahdon liikkeeseen rahaa pummaamaan. Tällä kertaa Haahto olikin tiukkana ja sanoi, ettei hän "kaiken maailman miehille anna rahaa". Jopa poliisille ilmoittamisen mahdollisuudenkin Haahto mainitsi. Aalto poistui liikkeestä, mutta rupesi sitten miettimään, mitä jos Haahto todellakin ilmoittaa poliisille. Aalto päätti, että Haahtoa pitää säikäyttää ja pakkasi kiven taskuunsa.
Työleirikarkuri meni takaisin liikkeeseen pummaamaan rahaa, mutta Haahto yritti hätyyttää hänet pois. Aalto sitten löi naista kivellä päähän. Haahto kaatui maahan ja Aalto jatkoi kivellä hakkaamista. Haahdon kuoltua Aalto pesi itseänsä ja pakkasi vereentyneen kaulahuivinsa ja takkinsa pahvilaatikkoon, minkä kanssa hän poistui pihaovesta. Aalto vakuutti, että ei varastanut liikkeestä mitään.

Jo kuitenkin 23.1.1958 samainen lehti uutisoi, että Aallon selvitettiin olleen Saaren murhan aikoihin Vaasassa, ei tapahtumapaikalla Isojoella. Eikä Elli Immon murhasta ja Aallon yhteydestäkään enää taidettu mitään puhua. Ja kuten rikosharrastajat varmasti tietävät, Immon ja Saaren murhat ovat edelleen selvittämättä.
Turun raastuvanoikeus tuomitsi kesäkuussa 1959 Aallon Eeva Haahdon murhasta 12 vuodeksi kuritushuoneeseen. Elinkautisen Aalto vältti, koska oli toiminut vailla täyttä ymmärrystä. Oikeus kuitenkin määräsi, että Aalto voidaan vaarallisena rikoksenuusijana eristää pakkolaitokseen.
