S'il est un produit local très apprécié par les touristes, c'est bien le poisson.
Chaque jour il est courant de voir des vacanciers arpenter les quais du vieux port dans l'attente des pêcheurs qui reviennent de leur « périple » quotidien en pleine mer.
Ces touristes, qu'ils soient continentaux ou étrangers, sont friands de pêche locale et aiment acheter des dentis et autres chapons aux professionnels de la mer dès qu'ils arrivent au port à bord de leurs chalutiers.
Une activité très prisée
Hier matin, un couple de vacanciers allemands souhaitait vivement rencontrer des pêcheurs bastiais.
« Nous avons très envie de discuter avec eux afin qu'ils nous expliquent les méthodes spécifiques de la pêche insulaire et nous conseillent à acquérir les meilleurs produits du jour. Lorsque nous avons préparé notre séjour en Corse auprès d'une agence de voyages de notre ville située dans le nord de l'Allemagne, on nous a dit que dans l'île la pêche était l'une des activités les plus prisées. C'est pourquoi, dès que nous sommes arrivés à Bastia, nous nous sommes rendus sur le vieux port puis dans des restaurants locaux afin de déguster ces spécialités de la mer ».
Ce qu'il faut savoir est que, de manière régulière, les restaurateurs bastiais, notamment ceux qui se trouvent sur les quais du vieux port, proposent à leur clientèle des poissons frais, pêchés du jour.
« Notre carte est élaborée à base de poissons, explique un restaurateur. Nous travaillons en étroite collaboration avec les pêcheurs locaux qui nous livrent chaque jour. De fait, notre chef a la possibilité de préparer toutes sortes de poissons, notamment des dentis et des Saint-Pierre au four, ainsi que des rougets qui font partie des plats préférés des touristes mais aussi, ne l'oublions pas, des Bastiais, fin connaisseurs en la matière ».
Convention avec l'Italie
La production locale est donc fournie en grande partie aux commerçants de la ville qui sont très demandeurs. Et ce, à l'instar de leurs clients qui, les jours de mauvais temps ou de grand vent, font la moue sachant que les pêcheurs n'ont pas pu travailler comme il se doit et n'ont donc pas rapporté la production attendue.
Gérard Romiti, le responsable du comité régional des pêches, oeuvre pour sa part à un thème qui lui tient particulièrement à coeur : la pêche-tourisme.
« Récemment, je me suis rendu en Sardaigne avec les responsables de l'Office de l'environnement de la Corse, nous a-t-il précisé. L'objectif de ce voyage était de signer une convention qui nous permette de tout mettre en oeuvre pour développer de la meilleure des manières la pêche-tourisme qui connaît un grand succès en Italie, en Espagne et en Grèce. Le but est de pouvoir accueillir des touristes à bord de nos chalutiers afin qu'ils puissent participer activement à notre travail journalier et se familiariser avec nos techniques de pêche. Les pêcheurs insulaires sont aujourd'hui d'accord pour oeuvrer dans ce sens avec les régions de Sardaigne, de Toscane et de Ligurie ».

Yesterday morning, a couple of German vacationers were eager to meet Bastia's fishermen.
"We really want to discuss with them so that they can explain the specific methods of island fishing and advise us on how to acquire the best products of the day. When we prepared our stay in Corsica at a travel agency in our city in northern Germany, we were told that fishing was one of the most popular activities on the island. That's why, as soon as we arrived in Bastia, we went to the old port and then to local restaurants to taste the specialties of the sea.
What you need to know is that, on a regular basis, Bastia's restaurant owners, especially those located on the quays of the old port, offer their customers fresh fish, caught on the day.
Our menu is based on fish," explains one restaurant owner. We work closely with local fishermen who deliver to us every day. In fact, our chef can prepare all kinds of fish, including dentis and baked Saint-Pierre, as well as red mullet, which are among the favorite dishes of tourists but also, let's not forget, of the Bastians, connoisseurs in this field.
Agreement with Italy
The local production is therefore supplied in large part to the city's merchants, who are very demanding. And this, like their customers who, on days of bad weather or high winds, pout knowing that the fishermen have not been able to work as they should and therefore have not brought back the expected production.
Gerard Romiti, the head of the regional fisheries committee, is working on a theme that is particularly close to his heart: fishing tourism.
