CO HWY 9 connects Silverthorne to Kremmling with the Eagles Nest National Wilderness area (one of eight in the White River National Forest) to the west of the highway with other public lands to the east. Hunting, fishing, hiking and other outdoor activities are critical to the economy of the area. This highway is the first test of wildlife crossings in the state (see plan and map: (visit link) ). The final report of the analysis of the effectiveness of the crossings may be found at (visit link) .

The crossings have proven to be very effective. See these various links: (visit link) , (visit link) , (visit link)
