Gargoyles on the bell tower of St Michael's church, Kniveton.

The west tower is late 13th century with a small lancet window and plain chambered door to the nave. There is a string course at first floor level. It has square-headed two-light bell openings, battlements and a short spire, which are Perpendicular or later.

There are two gargoyles on each side of the tower below the battlements, those on the east and west faces are broken. Two on the north face are complete, and one on the south face. Those on the north face are human likenesses, while the remaining gargoyle on the south face looks like it may be a ram, or other kind of horned animal.
