This is the Canadian War Cemetery in Holten, with its central piece the Cross of Sacrifice. Sad to see so many crosses with the Canadian Maple Leaf on them.

Our personal experience:

While on holidays, we took our children to the Canadian War Cemetery in Holten. It has 1394 graves of which almost all are Canadian ones. In contrast to other cemeteries, a lot of flowers/plants were put near the graves which gave the cemetery some color. In contrast to only white crosses and green fields we have seen elsewhere.
In the center of all the graves is the Cross of Sacrifice on a slight hill "overseeing" the graves and cemetery.

Canadian War Cemetery information

"The Canadian War Cemetery in Holten contains the graves of 1,394 British Commonwealth servicemen who fell during the Second World War. In the center of the plot is a 'Cross of Sacrifice' made of Portland natural stone, on which a bronze sword is attached. It is a Commonwealth War Graves Commission standard cross. An identical white stone slab with a Canadian Maple Leaf and a cross in relief has been placed at each grave.

The layout of Commonwealth war graves is uniform in all 140 countries where the Commonwealth War Graves Commission is responsible for the maintenance of war graves."

Cross of Sacrifice information:

"The Cross of Sacrifice is a memorial cross that can be found in hundreds of Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) military cemeteries. The cross was designed by Sir Reginald Blomfield and is usually found in cemeteries with 40 graves or more. It is usually a freestanding white Latin cross, usually of Portland stone, on an octagonal base. The size of the cross varies from 4 to 9 meters and a bronze sword is usually attached to the front of the cross"
