Excerpt from Tyler Morning Telegraph 1941

"City and school officials say work will begin as soon as federal aid from the WPA, amounting to approximately $45,000, has been approved.

... a new west stand for the football field, a new rock fence to surround the field and a quarter-mile track."

This article makes me believe the original field dates from 1941.
