The Toronto, Hamilton & Buffalo Railway began service in 1887. Although named for three cities, it never reached Toronto or Buffalo, operating mainly in the Golden Horseshoe from Hamilton west to Brantford, Welland and Dunnville. The railroad was bought and jointly operated by the Canadian Pacific and New York Central Railways.

The passenger station here was one of about 30 stations built for the TH&B. It saw passenger traffic from 1906 until 1969. It holds the distinction of being the only existing TH&B station still on its original site.

The station was closed in 1969, and converted into a restaurant, the Iron Horse Steakhouse. This restaurant closed permanently in 2007. Since then, the station has stood vacant.
