DE: Seit 1990 findet jedes Jahr Anfang August das Wacken-Open-Air Heavy-Metal-Festival im gleichnamigen Ort Wacken in Schleswig-Holstein statt. Das Festival wurde anfänglich in der Tongrube in Wacken mit 6 Bands und knapp 800 Besuchern abgehalten. Im Laufe der nächsten Jahre kamen weitere Bands und auch immer mehr Besucher hinzu, so dass die Tongrube platzmäßig nicht mehr ausreichte und auf den Acker "nebenan" umgezogen wurde. Die daneben liegenden Äcker werden dann auch während des Festivals als improvisierter Campingplatz von den mittlerweile 85000 Gästen genutzt.
Während der drei Haupt-Festival-Tage (Donnerstags bis Samstags) treten auf den mittlerweile acht über das Gelände verteilten Bühnen um die 200 internationale Bands mit einem 60 bis 90-minütigem Programm auf. Zusätzlich veranstaltet die Dorfgemeinschaft von Wacken, da die Hauptstraße für den Straßenverkehr eh gesperrt werden muss, ein großes Straßenfest, was noch mal um die 20000 weitere Besucher neben den bereits vor Ort befindlichen Heavy-Metal-Fans in den Ort lockt.
Das Drei-Tages-Ticket, das auch die Kosten für die aufgebaute Infrastruktur enthält, kostete in den Jahren 2017 bis 2019 jeweils 220 Euro - für das Pandemiebedingt ausgefallene Jahr 2020 waren dann 239 Euro zu bezahlen - die Karten behielten aber für 2021 und dann nach der Absage im Frühsommer 2021 auch für 2022 weiterhin ihre Gültigkeit.
