In 1637, Major John Mason was a commander in the Pequot War in Connecticut. The bronze statue of Major John Major depicts the commanding officer standing on a granite base. He wearing a jacket with a belt, broad brimmed hat and boots. He is drawing a sword from a scabbard on his left side his proper right hand.

A bronze plaque on the base lists his accomplishments and gives the reason why the monument was relocated. It is inscribed:

A Founder of Windsor, Old Saybrook and Norwich
Magistrate and Chief Military Officer of the Connecticut Colony
Deputy Governor and Acting Governor
A Patentee of the Colonial Charter

By the State of Connecticut
Relocated in 1996 to Respect a Sacred Site
Of the 1637 Pequot War
