About Beelzebub

" In the New Testament Beelzebub/Belzebub is called the "prince of the demons", another name for the devil or satan. In the Gospels, Jesus was called that by his enemies. When Jesus came into conflict with the Pharisees, they assumed that Jesus could only cast out demons through Beelzebub, "the prince of demons." "

Schinderhannes play:

"The Roermond resident Emile Seipgens wrote the libretto (opera texts) and the piano score for the Opera-Bouffe Schinderhannes in 1864, which is based on the legend of the robber chieftain Johann Bückler alias Schinderhannes. At intervals of several years, the opera bouffe is still staged to this day.

In addition to a statue by the writer Seipgens, you will find six statues of the various characters from this Opera-Bouffe in the city. These seven statues are all in the same street (which, however, has different names: Brugstraat - Bergstraat - Schoenmakersstraat and Heilige Geeststraat). The impetus for this group of statues was given in 1968 by N.V. Confection Industrie Roermond, which had a statue of Schinderhannes on horseback placed on the corner of Steenweg-Bergstraat.

The seven statues are:

Emile Seipgens (Wijnand Thönissen and Dick van Wijk, 1987).
Hiacinthe (Truus Coumans, 1980).
De Ruivers (Wijnand Thönissen and Dick van Wijk, 1986).
Schinderhannes (Dolf Wong, 1970 and 1973).
Beëlzebub (Wijnand Thönissen and Dick van Wijk, 1984), unveiled on September 13, 1984 and donated by Stichting Vitrines Hartje Stad Roermond.
Florenske (Dick van Wijk, 2002; originally by Dolf Wong, 1976).
Schwarze Peter (Wijnand Thönissen and Dick van Wijk, 1985)."
