The Great Blue Heron is a little more common 'round these parts than elsewhere, usually found lurking near the shore of a given body of water, just like the two sculptures here, and they tend to be rather shy, flying off rather than standing around to listen to your attempts to interact with them.
This sign provides a nice photo of a Great Blue, with a physical description and some background as to their eating habits, their activities, their capabilities, and their lifespans. Their talons are depicted as well.
