Yuri (Jurij) Gagarin var sovjetisk kosmonaut, og var den første mand i rummet i 1961.
Yuri Gagarin er født 9. marts 1934 i Klusjino og død 27. marts 1968, hvor han omkom ved en flyveulykke. Han startede sin karriere med en militær pilotuddannelse og blev sammen med 20 andre udvalgt til kosmonaut. De gennemgik et hårdt træningsprogram og Yuri endte med at blive udvalgt som den første kosmonaut i rummet. Den 12. april 1961 blev Yuri det første menneske i rummet, da han blev sendt op med Vostok 1.
Herefter fulgt berømmelse og han rejste rundt i verden som ambassadør for Sovjetunionen.

Busten er doneret af den russiske fond "Dialog of Cultures - United World" som er et tegn på russisk påskønnelse af de mange års dansk og russisk samarbejde inden for rumfart.
Begivenheden fandt sted ved en ceremoni 2. september 2016 og markerede det første jubilæum for den første danske astronaut i rummet. Andreas Mogensen, og hans russiske kaptajn og pilot, Sergey Volkov var begge til stede ved ceremonien.
Andreas Mogensen var den første dansker i rummet den 2. september 2015.


Yuri Gagarin was a Soviet cosmonaut, and was the first man in space in 1961.
Yuri Gagarin was born on March 9, 1934 in Klusjino and died on March 27, 1968, where he died in a plane crash. He started his career with a military pilot training and was, along with 20 others, selected as a cosmonaut. They underwent a hard training program and Yuri ended up being selected as the first cosmonaut in space. On April 12, 1961, Yuri became the first man in space when he was sent up with Vostok 1.
Then followed fame and he traveled around the world as an ambassador for the Soviet Union.


The bust was donated by the Russian foundation "Dialog of Cultures - United World" which is a sign of Russian appreciation of the many years of Danish and Russian cooperation in space.
The event took place at a ceremony on 2 September 2016 and marked the first anniversary of the first Danish astronaut in space. Andreas Mogensen, and his Russian captain and pilot, Sergey Volkov were both present at the ceremony.
Andreas Mogensen was the first Dane in space on 2 September 2015.
