"Construction started in 1972 and the plant has been in commercial operation since 1984. It is owned 50% by Vattenfall and 50% by E.ON. The power station is a boiling water reactor with a gross installed capacity of 1402 megawatts. The power station depends on the Elbe for the cooling water.

The reactor has been shut down since a fire in a transformer in 2007. Shortly after restarting in mid-2009, a technical problem caused another emergency stop. Since then, the nuclear power plant has been shut down and it looks like it will no longer be started up: in 2011 it was decided to shut down the power plant permanently in the context of the Atomausstieg."
