The Gladys Porter Zoo is a 31-acre park in Brownsville, Texas home to 377 species of animals from the Americas, Africa, Asia, and Australia. The zoo opened in 1971, and is the largest zoo in the Rio Grande Valley. Animals housed here include orangutan, gibbons, gorilla, echidna, kangaroos, and various birds and reptiles. There is also a butterfly garden which is great for birdwatching.
