The River Foss is 19.5 miles long and flows south from Yearsley to York where it flows into the River Ouse.

The board has information about mammals, birds, insects and plants along the route of the river.

Most of the river is in rural areas but this point is where it starts to enter the urban area of the city of York and part of the river that was canalised between 1793 and 1806.
