Brigadier Gerard (1968–1989) was a British Thoroughbred racehorse and sire. In a racing career which lasted from June 1970 until October 1972, he won seventeen of his eighteen races and has been rated the best racehorse trained in Britain in the 20th century. Link

The only race the horse lost was actually run at York Racecourse.

The pub itself was originally a boys home and converted to a pub in 1985.
