L'Institut Universitaire en Santé Mentale de Montréal a été fondé en 1873 en que l'Hospice (Asyle) St-Jean-de-Dieu. Il était dédié aux soins des patients atteints de maladie mentale. Dans les années 1920, l'Hospice prend le nom d'« Hôpital ». En 1976, il change de nom pour Hôpital Louis-H. Lafontaine. En 2013, il a été rebaptisé comme l'Institut Universitaire en Santé Mentale de Montréal et a depuis fusionné avec plusieurs autres institutions comme Centre Intégré Universitaire de Santé et de Services Sociaux de l'Est-de-l'Île-de-Montréal.

The Institut Universitaire en Santé Mentale de Montréal was founded in 1873 as the Hospice (Asyle) St-Jean-de-Dieu. It was dedicated to the care of patients with mental illness. In the 1920s, the Hospice took the name of “Hôpital”. In 1976, it changed its name to Hôpital Louis-H. LaFontaine. In 2013, it was renamed as the Institut Universitaire en Santé Mentale de Montréal and has since merged with several other institutions as the Center Intégré Universitaire de Santé et de Services sociaux de l'Est-de-l'Île-de-Montréal.
