The village is part of the Northern Plains National Heritage Area. It was occupied between about 1550 and 1600 by the Mandans. It is one of a dozen or so Mandan villages around the confluence of the Heart River and Missouri River.

The Village overlooks the Missouri River in a strong defensive position. It is easy to find being only a short distance from exit 157 on I94. Take the exit, go North, turn West onto Burnt Boat Drive. The entrance is about 3 tenths of a mile West and is clearly marked.
