The small town of Ladybank is situated in the Howe of Fife, a large fertile plain in the centre of Fife in eastern Scotland. It lies on the East Coast Railway Line as it heads through Fife between the Forth and Tay Bridges

The station is situated on Commercial Road towards the south-eastern corner of the town, and was opened in 1847. There are two platforms, with the original being on the northbound side. A tearoom lies on the southbound side.

The station lies just south of the junction of the line to Perth, the main line continues northwards to the stations at Springfield, Cupar, and Leuchars, before heading across the Tay Bridge to Dundee. The next station southbound is at Kirkcaldy.
