The seaside resort of Largs is situated in the northern part of Ayrshire on the Firth of Clyde coast. A lifeboat facility was opened here in 1964 with a Class D lifeboat operating out of a small station on the promenade.

In 1973 a further Atlantic 17 Class lifeboat ws added, but the following year both were replaced by an Atlantic 21 Class lifeboat.

In 1998, in order to be abled to house a new Atlantic 75 Class lifeboat, a new facility had to be built. This was completed in February of that year and would be officially opened by HRH The Princess Royal. The new station also housed a workshop, including oil and petrol stores.

In 2011 a new Atlantic B Class lifeboat was purchased, and is the current vessel in service today.

The station is situated on the shore to the north of the town centre on the main A78 Greenock Road.
