"Der Augsburger Bismarckturm steht westlich der Stadt auf dem Steppacher Berg in Steppach (Neusäß) oberhalb der B 300 (Landkreis Augsburg, Bayern).
Bismarck-Denkmäler wurden seit 1868 zu Ehren des 1890 entlassenen ersten deutschen Reichskanzlers Fürst Otto von Bismarck an vielen Orten des damaligen Deutschlands, in den ehemaligen Kolonien sowie auf allen Kontinenten errichtet. Der Augsburger Bismarckturm folgt dem Einheitsentwurf Götterdämmerung, mit dem der Architekt Wilhelm Kreis 1899, ein Jahr nach Bismarcks Tod, einen Wettbewerb der Deutschen Studentenschaft gewann. Damit ist auch dieser Turm, von individuellen Ausprägungen abgesehen, praktisch baugleich mit 47 anderen Bismarcktürmen bzw. Bismarcksäulen.
Der Turm steht auf Neusässer Stadtgebiet. Die Stadt Augsburg ist Eigentümer des Turms und des umgebenden Geländes. Der Erholungsgebieteverein Augsburg e. V. ist für die Unterhaltung und Sanierung des Turms verantwortlich.
Die feierliche Grundsteinlegung für Schwabens einzigen Bismarckturm fand am 4. August 1901 statt. Nach vier Jahren Bauzeit war der rund 20 Meter hohe Turm in Form einer wuchtigen Feuersäule aus Uracher Tuffstein fertiggestellt. Ursprünglich trug der Turm eine eiserne Flammenschale, in der bei der Einweihung am 3. September 1905 ein gewaltiges Feuer brannte. Ab 1911 wurde der Turm alljährlich zu Bismarcks Geburtstag am 1. April befeuert.
Im Zweiten Weltkrieg wurde der Bismarckturm als Luftraumbeobachtungs- und Flakturm missbraucht. Vermutlich wurde in dieser Zeit auch die Flammenschale entfernt. Der Turm überstand den Krieg nahezu unbeschadet. Von 1939 bis 1947 und von 1957 bis 1983 war der Turm für die Öffentlichkeit geschlossen.
1981–1983 wurde der Turm komplett saniert. 2005 wurde der 100. Geburtstag des Bismarckturms in Neusäß-Steppach gefeiert." (

The Augsburg Bismarck Tower stands west of the city on the Steppacher Berg in Steppach (Neusäß) above the B 300 (Augsburg district, Bavaria).
Bismarck monuments have been erected since 1868 in honor of the first German Chancellor, Prince Otto von Bismarck, who was dismissed in 1890, in many places in Germany at that time, in the former colonies and on all continents. The Augsburg Bismarck Tower follows the standard Götterdämmerung, with which the architect Wilhelm Kreis won a competition of the German student body in 1899, one year after Bismarck's death. This means that this tower, apart from individual characteristics, is practically identical in construction to 47 other Bismarck towers or Bismarck columns.
The tower stands in the Neusäss city area. The city of Augsburg is the owner of the tower and the surrounding area. The Erholungsgebieteverein Augsburg e. V. is responsible for the maintenance and renovation of the tower.
The ceremonial laying of the foundation stone for Swabia's only Bismarck tower took place on August 4th, 1901. After four years of construction, the around 20 meter high tower in the form of a massive fire column made of Urach tuff was completed. The tower originally had an iron flame bowl in which a huge fire burned when it was inaugurated on September 3, 1905. From 1911 onwards, the tower was lit every year for Bismarck's birthday on April 1st.
During the Second World War, the Bismarck Tower was misused as an air space observation and flak tower. Presumably the flame bowl was also removed during this time. The tower survived the war almost unscathed. The tower was closed to the public from 1939 to 1947 and from 1957 to 1983.
1981–1983 the tower was completely renovated. In 2005 the 100th birthday of the Bismarck Tower was celebrated in Neusäß-Steppach.
