This park is a hidden gem, in that they allow overnight parking and provide restroom facilities for travelers going along I-40. There's some playground equipment, a free book exchange, a baseball field, a basketball court, tennis courts, grills, picnic tables and considerable open space. Some reviews also indicate camping is allowed, but it's best to pitch your tent towards the back of the property, as it can be a little noisy here at night: You're within sight of the old US 66, now a business route off the Interstate. San Jon is far from being a ghost town, as you're across the street from the municipal building, and the schools and churches are nearby, but most of your services are north, across the Interstate. There are plenty of photo opportunities along old 66, but sadly, most of the buildings are abandoned.
