DÉMARCHE ARTISTIQUE

Le projet est issu d’une tradition pratiquée par les Algonquins qui, à la fin du XVIIe siècle, vivaient sur le territoire sur lequel s’étend aujourd’hui la ville de Saint-Georges. Il semble que les Algonquins, comme beaucoup de tribus amérindiennes, pratiquaient un rituel funéraire au cours duquel le corps du défunt était placé sur un lit suspendu à quatre poteaux en bois, de sorte que son esprit se joignait à celui des ancêtres dans une autre dimension. Je souhaite retravailler cette ancienne construction funéraire en la transposant à l’époque actuelle afin de proposer une sculpture monumentale constituée de divers matériaux contemporains, tels que l’acier inoxydable et le fer. Je veux souligner la rapidité et l’invariabilité du thème de la mort, toujours vécu par l’être humain avec peur et appréhension. La sculpture veut éveiller dans la mémoire de chacun cet événement inévitable et souligner son aspect libérateur intrinsèque. De nos jours, à l’époque où l’homme est coupable de faux soucis et d’accumulation de biens matériels, il faut se rappeler la fin de la vie et son histoire.

It seems that the Algonquins, like many Native American tribes, performed a funeral ritual in which the body of the deceased was placed on a bed suspended from four wooden poles, so that his spirit joined with that of the ancestors in another dimension. I want to rework this ancient funerary construction by transposing it to the current era in order to offer a monumental sculpture made of various contemporary materials, such as stainless steel and iron. I want to emphasize the speed and invariability of the theme of death, always experienced by humans with fear and apprehension.
The sculpture wants to awaken in everyone's memory this inevitable event and underline its intrinsic liberating aspect. Nowadays, in an age when man is guilty of false worries and the accumulation of material goods, we must remember the end of life and its history.
