De Morspoort, gelegen aan de Morssingel, is één van de twee overgebleven stadspoorten van Leiden. Vroeger kende de stad er acht. Het is de westelijke stadspoort sinds 1611. Oorspronkelijk was deze van hout, maar in 1669 werd besloten een stenen stadspoort te maken zodat deze weer gebruikt kon worden.
De poort heeft zijn naam te danken aan de vroegere omgeving. Toen was het gebied rondom Leiden een drassig weidegebied, wat De Morsch (betekenis: moeras) werd genoemd. De Morspoort staat in het buurtje d’Oude Morsch, wat ook verwijst naar dit oude moeras. In de volksmond wordt de Morspoort ook wel de Galgpoort genoemd, omdat deze vroeger een gevangenis was.
De poort en bijbehorende brug zijn beide rijksmonumenten.
Morspoort kazerne
De Morspoort kazerne werd in 1817 gebouwd aan het Galgewater. Hier verbleven tot aan 1940 de infanterie en bereden onderdelen. Daarna vestigde zich de opleiding tot korporaal-kok van defensie zich in de kazerne, tot deze in 1981 naar Haarlem werd verplaatst.
Wachtgebouw van de Morspoort kazerne
Het wachtgebouw is het enige deel van de kazerne dat niet gesloopt is. Het gebouw dankt zijn naam aan de vroegere functie. De toegangspoort naar de kazerne, welke bewaakt werd door een wachter, was gevestigd aan het wachtgebouw.

The Morspoort, located on the Morssingel, is one of the two remaining city gates of Leiden. The city used to have eight. It has been the western city gate since 1611. Originally it was made of wood, but in 1669 it was decided to make a stone city gate so that it could be used again.
The gate owes its name to the former environment. At that time the area around Leiden was a marshy meadow area, which was called De Morsch (meaning: swamp). The Morspoort is located in the neighborhood d'Oude Morsch, which also refers to this old swamp. The Morspoort is also popularly called the Galgpoort, because it used to be a prison.
The gate and accompanying bridge are both national monuments.
Spill barracks
The Morspoort barracks were built in 1817 on the Galgewater. Until 1940 the infantry and mounted units stayed here. After that, the training to become a corporal-cook of defense was established in the barracks, until it was moved to Haarlem in 1981.
Guard building of the Morspoort barracks
The guard building is the only part of the barracks that has not been demolished. The building owes its name to its former function. The entrance gate to the barracks, which was guarded by a guard, was located at the guard building.
