La Chaudière, cette rivière connue pour ses fréquentes sorties de lit et sa propension à emporter et broyer tout ce qui se retrouve en travers de sa course, est riche en histoires de ponts. Les premiers habitants, tourmentés par cette étendue d’eau, construisirent des ouvrages aussi différents les uns des autres afin de la traverser : bac, pont flottant, pont saisonnier sur chevalets de bois, pont arqué à lambourdes, pont métallique bowstring, etc. Les ponts couverts de Notre-Dame-des-Pins jalonnent eux aussi l’histoire beauceronne. En 1928, moins d’un an
après sa mise en service, le premier ouvrage cède sous l’embâcle et sa carcasse termine sa course disloquée sous le
pont métallique de Beauceville.

The Chaudière, this river known for its frequent bed exits and its propensity to carry away and crush anything that gets in its way, is rich in stories of bridges. The first inhabitants, tormented by this expanse of water, built structures as different from each other in order to cross it: ferry, floating bridge, seasonal bridge on wooden trestles, arched bridge with joists, metal bowstring bridge, etc. The covered bridges of Notre-Dame-des-Pins also punctuate Beauce history. In 1928, less than a year
after commissioning, the first structure gave way under the ice jam and its carcass ended its run dislocated under the
Beauceville metal bridge.
