Along with the marker is also the actual fire tower that they helped construct that has since been retired and is on location here in front of the Ranger Station.

Marker Text:
The Civilian Conservation Corp (CCC) made valuable contributions to conservation projects throughout Alabama and the nation. On June 23, 1933, Junior African American enrollees formed Company 475 at Fort McClellan, Alabama. This group of dedicated men constructed roads, truck trails, and fire breaks. They also fought wildfires and contributed to numerous conservation projects including the construction of the Horn Mountain Forest Fire Lookout Tower in 1938. The fire tower was instrumental in fire prevention and safety.
