Het monument ‘Bijna Vrij’ is een bronzen beeld van een jong meisje met op haar rechterhand een duif. Het beeld is geplaatst op een stenen zuil. De tekst op de zuil luidt:
‘BIJNA VRIJ
28-30 APRIL’.

Het beeld symboliseert de nieuwe tijd. Op de rechterhand van het meisje zit een vredesduif die zijn vleugels spreidt. De duif staat op het punt om de vrijheid tegemoet te vliegen. Met dit beeld wilde beeldhouwster W. Albers Pistorius-Fokkelman uitdrukken dat de bevrijding van dit gebied bijna een feit was. Het meisje zit dan ook ietwat onwennig en verlegen aan haar jurkje te friemelen.

Het monument bevindt zich bij de R.K. kerk aan de Jan van Arkelweg te Achterveld (gemeente Leusden).Bij de kerk staat nu het bronzen beeldje van een meisje met een duif op haar hand. Een mooi monument dat ‘Bijna Vrij’ heet en ons herinnert aan de omschreven gebeurtenissen. Het jonge meisje, dat verlegen aan haar rokje frunnikt, stelt een tijd voor waarin weer allerlei verwachtingen mogelijk zijn. Ze heeft de vredesduif, die klaarzit om uit te vliegen, op haar hand. De vrijheid tegemoet.

Omdat de St. Jozefschool een bescheiden rol van betekenis mocht spelen, maar vooral om het gedachtegoed, heeft de school het beeldje in 1988 geadopteerd. Elk jaar, rond Bevrijdingsdag, wordt in groep zeven aandacht besteed aan de Tweede Wereldoorlog, het monument “Bijna Vrij” en de les die we er hopelijk uit hebben geleerd: “Dit mag nooit meer gebeuren”.

The monument 'Almost Free' is a bronze statue of a young girl with a pigeon on her right hand. The statue is placed on a stone column. The text on the column reads:
'NEARLY FREE
28-30 APRIL'.

The image symbolizes the new age. On the girl's right hand sits a peace dove that spreads its wings. The dove is about to fly to freedom. With this statue, sculptress W. Albers Pistorius-Fokkelman wanted to express that the liberation of this area was almost a fact. The girl is therefore somewhat awkwardly and shyly fidgeting with her dress.

The monument is located at the R.K. church on the Jan van Arkelweg in Achterveld (municipality of Leusden). At the church now stands the bronze statue of a girl with a pigeon on her hand. A beautiful monument that is called 'Almost Free' and reminds us of the described events. The young girl, who shyly fiddles with her skirt, represents a time when all kinds of expectations are again possible. She has the dove of peace, ready to fly, on her hand. Towards freedom.

Because the St. Joseph School was allowed to play a modest role of significance, but mainly because of the ideas, the school adopted the statue in 1988. Every year, around Liberation Day, group seven pays attention to the Second World War, the monument "Almost Free" and the lesson we have hopefully learned from it: "This must never happen again".
