"A group of Hindustani Surinamese took the initiative in 1980 to meet the needs of the Hindustani in Eindhoven, who were deprived of their own cultural experience. The HSS (Hindu Sanskriti Samaaj) was established for this purpose. Mandir activities were organized for both the Sanatan Dharm and the Arya Samaaj. The building that was taken into use for this purpose was on the Stratumsedijk.

The HSS broke up and it was decided to organize separate activities for the Sanatan Dharma and for the Arya Samaaj. In 1983 the Shri Shiva Foundation was established."
