Dit 8,8 cm kanon is in 1939 gebouwd bij Wilton-Feijenoord/Bofors voor een onderzeeboot van de Koninklijke Marine. Dit kanontype was te vinden op de onderzeeërs die waren ingezet in Nederlands-Indië. De geschiedenis van het hier opgestelde kanon is niet helemaal opgehelderd. Vermoedelijk was het bestemd voor een onderzeeboot, die door het begin van de Tweede Wereldoorlog niet kon worden afgebouwd. Zeker is wel dat dit kanon na de Tweede Wereldoorlog heeft gefunctioneerd op de saluutbatterij bij Hoek van Holland.

This 8.8 cm gun was built in 1939 at Wilton-Feijenoord/Bofors for a submarine of the Royal Netherlands Navy. This gun type could be found on the submarines that were deployed in the Dutch East Indies. The history of the cannon installed here has not been fully elucidated. It was probably intended for a submarine, which could not be completed due to the start of the Second World War. What is certain is that this gun has after the Second World War functioned on the salute battery at Hoek van Holland.
