NL In de zuidoosthoek van het Landgoed Bronbeek, staat het opvallende kunstwerk Thuisland van Rob Voerman. Het was onderdeel van de expositie ‘Bronbekers in Beeld’ uit 2013. Het kunstwerk is in 2018 teruggeplaatst op de oorspronkelijke plek.

Op een afgelegen plek zien we ‘Thuisland’. Het chaotisch ogende geheel oogt als een huis op palen. Onderaan hangt een schip. Rob Voerman presenteert het leven van Johannes de Keijser (1820-1897) als een ontredderd en ontworteld bestaan in de marge van de samenleving. De Keijser deserteerde uit het Belgische leger, voer naar Indië, leefde daarin oorlog, en werd na een kort verblijf op Bronbeek wegens wangedrag al snel weer de laan uit gestuurd. Het gheeft wel de Nederlandse Willemsorde gekregen, de hoogste onderscheiding van het Nederlandse leger.‘Thuisland’ herbergt ook een gouden huisje met een bijzonder interieur, waar de herinnering aan Indië woont.

ENG In the southeast corner of the Bronbeek Estate, you will find the striking work of art Thuisland by Rob Voerman. It was part of the exhibition 'Bronbekers in Beeld’ from 2013. The artwork was returned to its original location in 2018.

In a remote place we see 'Homeland'. The chaotic looking whole looks like a house on stilts. At the bottom hangs a ship. Rob Voerman presents the life of Johannes de Keijser (1820-1897) as a devastated and uprooted existence on the margins of society. De Keijser deserted from the Belgian army, sailed to the Indies, lived in war, and was soon fired again after a short stay at Bronbeek for misconduct. It did receive the Dutch Order of William, the highest decoration of the Dutch army. 'Thuisland' also houses a golden house with a special interior, where the memory of the Indies lives.
