Medio 1984 had Marcus Ravenswaaij opdracht gekregen een “Het blussen van een brand in vroeger dagen” is op 6 januari 1986 onthuld door Maarten Willem Schakel (Meerkerk, 17 juli 1917 – Gorinchem, 13 november 1997), waarnemend burgemeester van Noordeloos, Hoogblokland en Hoornaar, ter gelegenheid van de gemeentelijke herindeling waarbij Hoogblokland met de gemeenten Arkel, Giessenburg, Hoornaar, Noordeloos en Schelluinen op 1 januari 1986 werden samengevoegd tot de gemeente Giessenlanden.

Met “Het blussen van een brand in vroeger dagen” heeft Marcus Ravenswaaij uitgebeeld hoe in oude tijden een brand in Hoogblokland werd geblust. Als een brand was uitgebroken, werden de inwoners opgeroepen de handen in elkaar te slaan en de brand te blussen (wie aan zo’n oproep geen gehoor gaf, riskeerde een boete). “Het blussen van een brand in vroeger dagen” staat dicht bij het atelier van Marcus Ravenswaaij en Marijke A. Deege aan de Dorpsweg 71.

In mid-1984, Marcus Ravenswaaij had been commissioned to “put out a fire in the old days” and was unveiled on January 6, 1986 by Maarten Willem Schakel (Meerkerk, July 17, 1917 – Gorinchem, November 13, 1997), acting mayor of Noordeloos, Hoogblokland and Hoornaar. , on the occasion of the municipal reorganization in which Hoogblokland with the municipalities of Arkel, Giessenburg, Hoornaar, Noordeloos and Schelluinen were merged on 1 January 1986 to form the municipality of Giessenlanden.

With “Extinguishing a fire in the old days” Marcus Ravenswaaij has depicted how a fire in Hoogblokland was extinguished in ancient times. If a fire broke out, residents were called upon to join forces and extinguish the fire (those who did not heed such a call risked a fine). “Extinguishing a fire in the old days” is close to the studio of Marcus Ravenswaaij and Marijke A.
