De handreiking is een oorlogsmonument in de Nederlandse gemeente Montfoort dat herinnert aan de strijd tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog en de herwonnen vrijheid. Het beeld wordt ook wel Vredesmonument genoemd.

Het 4 mei-comité en het Vredesplatform in Montfoort namen het initiatief voor een gedenkteken, dat niet alleen ter herdenking was bedoeld, maar ook moest verwijzen naar het "werken aan vrede en aan een betere toekomst". Het werd de eerste opdracht in de openbare ruimte voor Margriet Barends. Ze verbeeldde twee kinderen die een muurtje beklimmen en elkaar daarbij helpen.

In januari 1991 werd het nieuwe stadskantoor geopend. Het monument is geplaatst op het plein tussen het kasteel Montfoort en het stadskantoor. Het werd op 7 november 1991 onthuld. Jaarlijks worden tijdens Nationale Dodenherdenking bij het monument bloemen en kransen gelegd. Ook tijdens de internationale Vredesweek vindt er geregeld een herdenking plaats.”

“The gesture” is a war memorial in the Dutch municipality of Montfoort that commemorates the struggle during the Second World War and the regained freedom. The statue is also called Peace Monument.

The May 4 Committee and the Peace Platform in Montfoort took the initiative for a memorial, which was not only intended to commemorate, but also had to refer to "working for peace and a better future". It was the first assignment in public space for Margriet Barends. She depicted two children climbing a wall and helping each other.

The new municipal office was opened in January 1991. The monument is placed on the square between the Montfoort castle and the municipal office. It was unveiled on November 7, 1991. Every year, during National Remembrance Day, flowers and wreaths are laid at the monument. There is also a regular commemoration during International Peace Week.”
