"Powers of the trial court
In accordance with the provisions of article 87 of the Organic Law of the Judiciary, it corresponds to the investigating courts:

Issuance and execution of instruments of mutual recognition of criminal decisions in the European Union as determined by law. This civil and criminal judicial cooperation regime within the European Union is established by Law 23/2014 on Mutual Recognition.
Autonomous confiscation procedures for crimes that are within its jurisdiction.
Authorization for internment of foreigners and control of their stay in case of expulsion.

Composition of the trial court
The trial court is a single- person jurisdictional body with jurisdiction over criminal matters. In this it differs from the Collegiate Courts, in which the judging element is a body of three, five or seven magistrates.

The judge is assisted by the following officials :

Judicial Secretary, belonging to the Body of Secretaries of the Administration of Justice governed by Royal Decree 1608/2005, which approves its Organic Regulations.
Forensic doctor, belonging to a national body. According to the Law of Criminal Procedure, this doctor is in charge of assisting the administration of justice in all cases and actions in which the services of his profession are necessary.
Officials, auxiliaries and agents of the Administration of Justice."
