Little Ellen's final resting place was originally marked with a faux crypt that has not survived well over time: It has most likely been damaged by vandals, livestock, or both. Despite its condition, most of the inscription is still legible:
To the memory
of
the daughter of
J.H & [N.J.?] Keith
Born March 25, 1853
Died March 3, 1864
----------
The replacement headstone has "Ellen Keith" in relief at the top, with this inscription:
Born
Mar. 25, 1856
Died
Mar. 3, 1864
-----------
The historical marker provides some background:
The earliest use of this burial ground was in 1864 at the death of Ellen, daughter of J.H. Keith. William ("Big Bill") Keith donated this memorial to his Aunt Ellen with the understanding that it would be used for free public interments. It was called "The Old Dublin Cemetery" until 1961 when an endowment was created and the name was changed. There are about 1400 graves including 292 without names that are noted only with field stones or funeral home markers. This graveyard is still in use.
