From the historical marker at the cemetery: "Buried here is the Rev. Edward Mitchell (1760-1837), a Revolutionary soldier, Methodist minister, Virginia farmer and pioneer settler of St. Clair County, who emigrated from Fincastle, Virginia in 1818 and settled on this farm, where he and his descendants lived until 1850. Buried with him are his wife, Ann Haley Mitchell, four of his children and their spouses, James and Anna Walton Mitchell, Tilghman and Mary Mitchell West, Washington and Frances Mitchell West, and John and Susan Mitchell Dennis. and fourteen grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
