This is a monument to the song of the Snail.

The song roughly translated to english is:
Snail
Snail
Snail
Where's your head?
Reveal your tenticles! Reveal your Eyes!
Show me your head!

The area was once known as the Kokufu of Musashi Province, with a large Kokubunji Temple and the head shrine of Musashi Province.
This memorial is part of an 18.7km course along the old Kamakura Kaido, which connected Fuchu, once called the capital of Musashi Province, with Kamakura, and there are many historical sites along the Kaido where you can learn about the relationship between Kamakura and Musashino.

This is a great way to learn about the history of Kamakura and Musashino.
