In 1586 Francis Drake attacked Santo Domingo. He commanded his men to enter the town in two columns, with the support of artillery. The garrison panicked and fled. The town was taken. Drake pillaged it, of course and to sweeten the situation he proposed to the Spanish a ramson to return Santo Domingo to Spain. He started by demanding 500.000 Ducados, or else he would raze the place. He left after accepting 25.000 Ducados, plus weapons and slaves, heading to Cartagena, his next target.

There isn't much about this in the museum besides a plaque telling the story.
