Ik zag dit prachtige pand in Bussum en bij het zoeken online vond ik een mooie foto uit 1950 uit dezelfde hoek. Afgebeeld zijn de Julianaschool en de Willem Kalfflaan te Bussum. De foto komt uit het archief van Gooi- en Eemstreek en is van een oude ansichtkaart. De sluitertijd was toen wat meer dan nu, let maar bijvoorbeeld op de dame met de kinderwagen.

In 1930 verhuisde de Julianaschool naar een gloednieuw gebouw aan de Willem Kalfflaan 3, aan de rand van het Brediuskwartier, destijds een wijk in opbouw. Het schoolgebouw was ontworpen door de architect N. Doornberg in de stijl van de Amsterdamse School. Al snel werd er een gymnastieklokaal aangebouwd. Het gebouw is inmiddels aangemerkt als gemeentelijk monument: Het fraaie schoolgebouw is zorgvuldig geïntegreerd in zijn omgeving. De expressionistische stijl toont duidelijk de invloed van W.M. Dudok. In de sterk horizontaal gerichte gevels komt een torenachtig, verticaal element voor op de plaats waar de hoofdvleugel en de haaks daarop staande zijvleugel elkaar ontmoeten. Het schoolgebouw is van architectuurhistorische betekenis als een goed, kenmerkend en vrijwel gaaf voorbeeld van buurtgebonden scholenbouw uit de jaren twintig en dertig.

I saw this beautiful building in Bussum and when searching online I found a beautiful photo from 1950 from the same angle. Depicted are the Juliana School and the Willem Kalfflaan in Bussum. The photo comes from the Gooi- en Eemstreek archive and is from an old postcard. The shutter speed was a bit more then than now, just notice the lady with the stroller, for example.

In 1930 the Juliana School moved to a brand new building at Willem Kalfflaan 3, on the edge of the Brediuskwartier, a neighborhood under construction at the time. The school building was designed by the architect N. Doornberg in the style of the Amsterdam School. A gymnasium was soon added. The building has since been classified as a municipal monument: The beautiful school building has been carefully integrated into its environment. The expressionist style clearly shows the influence of W.M. dudok. In the strongly horizontally oriented facades, a tower-like, vertical element occurs where the main wing and the side wing standing at right angles to it meet. The school building is of architectural-historical significance as a good, characteristic and virtually intact example of neighborhood-based school construction from the 1920s and 1930s.
