Trapped in the age of corsets, and horse-drawn buggies, the ghost of Ada Harrison is said to roam the rooms and grounds of the Loop-Harrison estate in Port Sanilac Michigan where she lived all but a half-dozen years of her life. Raised in a log cabin, she rose to become the matriarch of her little community holding court in the 20-room mansion built by her physician father in 1875. She played organ and piano and local children would have their only opportunity to view the inside of her stately home when learning music under Ada’s stern tutelage.

However in the 1920's without warning, the age of technology descended upon Ada Harrison with a vengeance striking her down in front of her own house. She was walking across the street at night to collect rent from tenants in an older house they owned. At the same time, a man was at the wheel of a contraption only recently known in her little community, a model T Ford automobile. Motoring carelessly without working headlights, he struck a heavy and unexpected object while passing the Harrison Home. It was Ada and thus she went down in history as the first auto fatality ever in Sanilac County.

Sometimes at night while driving past the Harrison Home, now a museum, motorists have spotted in their rear-view mirrors Ada Harrison walking in her flowing dress forever, attempting unsuccessfully to reach the far side of the road. Tradesmen, while servicing the aging mansion have also felt the cold draft of her movements and seen her troubled image pacing back and forth at the window of her upstairs bedroom contemplating the very spot outside where she met her tragic end.
