À la suite d'une visite au Québec, le Prince Jérome Napoléon fait un don d'une statue de Bellone, déesse romaine de la guerre, qui complétera le monument. Le 19 octobre 1863, le monument est inauguré officiellement. Le monument des Braves se veut alors un symbole de réconciliation et de paix.

Following a visit to Quebec City, Prince Jérome Napoléon donated a statue of Bellona, a Roman war goddess, thus completing the monument. On October 19, 1863, the monument was officially unveiled. The Des Braves monument became a symbol of reconciliation and peace.
