"Auf Initiative eines polnischen Denkmalkomitees entstand hier in den Jahren 1946/47 eine der ersten KZ-Gedenkstätten Europas. Die Anlage umfasst Relikte aus der Zeit des Konzentrationslagers, neu errichtete Gedenkzeichen und Gräberzonen.

Die Gedenkstätte wurde in der Art eines christlichen Kreuzweges angelegt. Der Eingang befindet sich oberhalb des Krematoriums, dem zentralen Symbol des Konzentrationslagers. Dorthin wurden die Pfeiler des Lagertors versetzt, als Sinnbild für den Beginn des Leidens der Häftlinge. Der Weg führt durch das sogenannte "Tal des Todes", vorbei an den Stationen der Exekutionsstätte, der "Aschepyramide" und dem Platz der Nationen" bis hinauf zur katholisch geweihten Kapelle "Jesus im Kerker". Am Ende des Weges befindet sich ein Denkmal zu Ehren der "Jüdischen Opfer Nationalsozialistischer Gewaltherrschaft" mit einem Davidstern an der Spitze und einer angedeuteten Menora auf der Rückseite.

Die Senke, in der die Gedenkanlage errichtet wurde, war Teil des KZ Flossenbürg. Hier stand/steht das Krematorium und hier wurde die Asche von etwa 15.000 Menschen verstreut oder vergraben.

"On the initiative of a Polish monuments committee, one of the first concentration camp memorials in Europe was built here in 1946/47. The complex includes relics from the time of the concentration camp, newly erected memorials and burial zones.

The memorial was laid out in the manner of a Christian Way of the Cross. The entrance is above the crematorium, the central symbol of the concentration camp. The pillars of the camp gate were moved there as a symbol of the beginning of the prisoners' suffering. The path leads through the so-called "Valley of Death", past the stations of the execution site, the "Ash Pyramid" and the "Place of Nations" up to the Catholic chapel "Jesus in the dungeon". The sacred building was built from the stones of demolished watchtowers ." (Source: information board at the chapel)

At the end of the path is a memorial in honor of the "Jewish victims of National Socialist tyranny" with a Star of David at the top and a menorah on the back.

The depression in which the memorial was erected was part of the Flossenbürg concentration camp. The crematorium was/is here and the ashes of about 15,000 people were scattered or buried here.
