St Mary's Episcopal Church was designed by Sir George Gilbert Scott and dedicated in 1858, ten years after the congregation was formed in the town of Broughty Ferry, then a separate town, but now an eastern suburb of the city of Dundee.
The church has been improved and added to since, with the most significant developments being the south aisle added in 1870, and in 1911, extensions to the east and west, with the chancel being lengthened by Sir Robert Lorimer.
The church is situated on the south side of the A930 Queen Street, the main route through the town from Dundee. The East Coast Railway Line runs behind the rear. The main feature of the building is a large bellcote on the western gable.
