This lighthouse was built in 1879 by R. Deeley & Co., a company from New York. It used to act as a beacon for the maritime traffic crossing the Atlantic until 1969. It was inaugurated on the 9th September 1879, working with a system of revolving light and shadows given off by a kerosene lamp.
