The church has a presence on the website for the United Methodist Church, noting a small congregation, but while there are plenty of listings across the United States for Richland United Methodist Churches, there's not much to be found for this one. The sanctuary looks like it was built between 1900 and 1940, maybe earlier, maybe later. A 1971 Texas Historical Marker provides a few sound bytes:
Founded 1847 on remote frontier, by efforts of the Rev. J.E. Ferguson and the Rev. J.G. Hardin. In 1966 the American Association of Methodist Historical Societies honored Richland as the oldest continuing congregation in Central Texas Annual Conference.
There is a small prayer garden in front of the sanctuary, and a tall cross, at least 50' high, overlooks the property. Painted white, it is made of stainless steel with no identifying marks or dedications.
