"Although several schools, both public and private were originally located within the district, the single-story, brick Franklin School at the eastern edge represents the only surviving early 20th-century example.

The district's only surviving, early 20th-century educational building - Franklin School - currently occupies several lots on the eastern edge, and features corbeled brick detailing below the eaves, and transomed double doors recessed beneath tall round arches of stone."

May 18—A short ground breaking ceremony was held here Monday morning at the site of the new brick Franklin Ward School building that is to be erected through a $30000 PWA school improvement grant."
