Saint Peter Cathedral - Erie, PA - Picture Perfect Postcards on Waymarking.com

Saint Peter Cathedral, on the corner of West 10th and Sassafras Streets in downtown Erie, PA is the cathedral of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Erie. The church was designed by architect Patrick Keely in the French Victorian Gothic style. Construction was begun in 1873 and completed in 1893 when it was consecrated as the cathedral of the diocese. The exterior of is made mostly of red sandstone. The central tower is 265 feet tall, making it the tallest structure in Erie. The cathedral underwent renovations in the 1990s, reorienting the sanctuary, and is currently having restoration work done throughout the church.

The postcard which shows an illustration of the cathedral was produced by the Tichnor Brothers sometime between 1930 and 1945. It is available on the Digital Commonwealth of Massachusetts website.
