Much loved and well-respected photographer, Rhode Island School of Design professor, and 1973 founder of film processing chemistry company Sprint Systems, Paul Krot has a headstone resembling a film developing canister.

The minimalist circular granite monument is about three feet in diameter, set on edge atop a plain rectangular block. The front and back disks are light gray and sandwich a darker, polished section that emulates film stock. A single round hole lined with cast bronze perforates the center. Engraving on the obverse face consists of his signature arcing across the top section and his date of death -- December 18, 1992 -- below the aperture.

His grave site is at Swan Point Cemetery in Providence, Rhode Island. The plot is south of Riverside Avenue between Heltzen Avenue and Swan Point Road.

Mr. Krot is honored with a scholarship in his name at RISD and a community darkroom named for him at AS220, a local non-profit arts organization. His work is in museum collections including those of RISD, The Art Institute of Chicago, Delaware Art Museum, National Gallery of Canada, and Princeton University Art Museum.

Born in 1939, he was only about 53 years old when he died of cancer. You can watch a tribute video here.
