Named after Winfield Scott, whose memorial is also in DC, Winfield Scott Hancock (1824-1826) is best known for his role as a US Army general in the American Civil War, particularly for his troops' victory at Gettysburg, repulsing Pickett's Charge. After the war, he commanded troops in the Indian Wars. He unsuccessfully ran for president in 1880.
