German model of 1918 howitzer barrel on static display in cemetery. Cemetery was created to serve Forts Worden, Casey and Flagler's soldiers and dependents
The forts were opened in May 1902 and a month later in June 1902 Private Elisha Webb, 23, died of illness and was the first person buried in the post cemetery.
Originally a pivot gun of the Revenue Cutter Jefferson Davis was on display in the cemetery. At the start of WWII the gun was melted down in a metal scrap drive. After the war the current display piece was installed.

A waymarker contacted me and pointed out that this is a French 1917 Schneider 155mm howitzer. The US adopted the French howitzer and US made Schneiders were designated 1918 155mm Howitzer. So this gun probably has nothing to do with Germany.
